Feudal Life, Black Death, The Crusades
This quarter we continued our subject on the Middle Ages. We learnt about the following topics: Feudal Life, The Crusades, Castles, and The Black Death.
Feudal Life
In the topic Feudal Life, we learnt about different positions in the feudal system. The King was on the top of the table because he controlled all the people. The Lords were second in the table as they were the ones who provided fiefs (land) for the knights and the peasants. The knights came after the Lords as they guarded the castle and it's contents. A peasant was the lowest position. They had to work hard on the field and were very poor. In feudal times, everyone used the term 'You do this and I give you that' which meant that the person who wanted land from another person, had to first do something for the other person before that person gave him/her land.
The Crusades
The crusades were Holy Wars fought between two or more sides for different reasons. People went on crusades for different reasons. The Crusaders went on crusade because they believed in what will they receive if they gone through the holy war, some were looking for adventure, criminals wanted a safe place to hide, and merchants went to crusade for trading. The crusades were holy war between Moeslims and Christian who fought for a holy city, Jerusalem. For the Moeslims, Jerusalem is a holy city because it was the place when Prophet Muhammad ascended to Heaven. For the Christians, Jerusalem is a holy city because it was the place when Lord Jesus Christ was born on Earth. And for the Jews, Jerusalem is a holy city because it a place where Solomon's temple were located. This war brought a good and bad impact for all Europe.
Castles
Medieval castles were ruled by kings. There were many parts of a castle such as: a bailey, a portcullis, a dungeon, a keep, a moat, and a drawbridge. These parts had different functions. For example, a drawbridge was the way in and out of a castle. The moat surrounded the castle so nobody could come into the castle except through the drawbridge. Long before the castle change the materials into stones, castles used woods as the materials, but since it was easily rotted or burnt, castles changed it's material into stones.
The Black Death
The Black Death was a disease thought to be caused by rats. This was proven wrong by Barney Sloane, an archaeologist. He stated in the Guardian that the disease was transferred from human to human. He explained that rats couldn't have done it as there weren't enough rats to spread it and that the rats couldn't have survived winter conditions where the Black Death was still progressing. Humans lived close together which explained how the disease could have been passed by humans.
I did well in humanities when i pass humanities test and the result of the test is achieving more than the standard. I also did well in humanities when we were researching about feudal life, black death, and castle by researching through trusted website and summarize it well. I could improve in humanities by studying more often about history.
