Art
We were having a ceramic workshop. In the first week, we were asked to create a cup out of clay. The thing that i found hard in creating the cup is making the thickness the same. It is done by widen the clay. I found that the thickness are not equal in all sides. Some were thick and some were thin. Although, I already scratch and brush it with water, it won’t join together. Because of this, I ask an advice from the expert of the ceramic workshop. From the advice, I knew that i put to much water so that is why the clay wont join together. In the process, I also encountered some problem such as cracks that occurred in the clay. To erase this crack, I need to use sponge so that the clay would join together. The pinching process and the crack are the problems that I encountered in creating the cup and the bowl. In this ceramic workshop, I learn that making a pottery is very hard. It requires a smooth hand not a rough hands to shape the clay. Making pottery is also quite fun. We got to play with clay, making the fun with the shape. We could also create decorations to be put into the clay. I am interested if there is another ceramic workshop. Because I now know that painting the pottery is not the same with painting in a paper, I must to be careful in painting the clay. We cannot cover a part that is already painted with another color because we don’t want to make to thick. I also learn that when we shape the clay, we also cannot make it too thick because when it burn, the result is that there will be a huge crack. I also learn that joining back a crack during shaping the clay is easy, either use sponge or use a fettling knife. The bowl was not made by me, it was made by the expert. The bowl that i create, when it was burn it cracks. That is why to the expert create a new one to replace the one that I do. It seems that are some part of the bowl that i make to thick that is why when it was burn, it cracks. The successful aspect of this bowl is the decoration I create around the bowl. It seems that the color is a bit tidy. The color is just what i aspected. Then, another we need to do was creating a presentation about art appreciation to the Grade 12 students’ artwork. My presentation went well because I was able to find the art element and art principle, analyze it, and then present it to the audience. The less successful part of my presentation is that lack of details. The next time there is presentation like this, I would add more details.
